About

Hi!  I am an author, teacher, fiber artist specializing in locker hooking, crochet, sewing, and an avid crafter of everything creative and crafty.  I live in Anchorage, Alaska, and look forward to sharing it with you!  We have four grown kids who are all really wonderful people and doing well on their own, one westie and two ragdoll cats, and we have two grandbabies!

In 1999, I wrote and self-published the first book on locker hooking with fabric entitled, “Locker Hooking With Fabric Strips” ©1999, which started my business, Alaska Locker Hooking Etc.  In 2009 with the increase cost of printing and the down economy, I went “green” with ebooks and epatterns, as well as wrote a smaller and more affordable version of the my first book entitled, “The Basics: Locker Hook A Mug Rug”.

Locker hooking is an “old rug hooking technique” using fabric strips or thick yarn, a locker hook, latch hook rug canvas, and locking thread (yarn which is inside the loops). You can make rugs, wall hangings, clothing, purses, belts, baskets, blankets, frames, kitchen and bath items, tons of other home decor and accessories!   I enjoy locker hooking because it is fun, easy, and portable!  It’s such a great inexpensive way of RECYCLING materials!

I also love to crochet with fabrics, yarns, and beads!  In 2005, I started designing crochet patterns which have proven very popular!  I also enjoy crocheting Alaskan rocks, which make great napkin & paper weights, bookends, door stops, and decorations.  They are little gifts from nature!

In 2010, I started making Alaskan Stuffies when my daughter asked me to make a stuffie (softie or plush) for her first baby and my first grandbaby.  They are cute, soft, colorful, crazy, fun stuffed creatures!  I make them with polar fleece and child safety eyes and noses.  For ALL ages!

I’ve been in many stores that have come and gone, but for the last 12 years I have sold my products in Alaska HomeCrafters Emporium, Anchorage, Alaska, a lovely gift store.  I’ve had some big bumps in the road, but I’ve hung in there because I love what I do, I believe in handmade products, and most of all I love my customers who I’ve gotten to know along the road.

My website has changed hosts numerous times, but it is still www.lockerhooking.com.  I’ve been thrown me into Facebook, Twitter, Etsy, Stumble Upon, Pinterest, Flicker, etc.  Next, I’ve been told to get blogging!  What is blogging?  I’m still trying to figure out how to work my cell phone (really)!

Thank you for visiting and please come back soon!
